New to me X5

Hi there!

Been wanting an X5 since since forever. First drove one when my e92 (335) started acting up and was in and out of the dealer for service.

Long story short and many cars later here I am.

Picked up a 2011 35i with 98k on it. Alpine white with oyster interior.

2 owner car and not many service records available. Person I purchased it from is in IT for large banks. Needless to say they were not to sure of anything about the car.

I have a few questions and maybe you guys can chime in.

1. For the life of me I can’t clear the seat calibration error. Tried everything I have seen online and nothing works.

2. Pulling code A72EJBE which appears to be something related to heat however- code was in history, I cleared it drove about 100 miles, it comes back but says history so I’m not sure. I can tell you last owner mentioned he replaced some type of “pump” regarding heat issues. Not sure. What’s this mean for me as far as replacing this?

3. I get another code that’s CF32. I searched around and it’s vague.

4. I know the cars about 10 years old but when the cars quiet and I switch from park to drive or vice versus, I can hear the actual shift knob clicking internally- is this normal?

5. Is it possible to code out amber marker in the headlight?

Ps I’m coming from a 19 Lexus ES that I lease and a 12 is convertible. Both of which never have an issue. I gave up my e92 and regret it but needed major reliability at the time.

Congrats on joining the ranks of E70 owners!

Recommend you try getting Inpa/Ista loaded on a laptop, hard to diagnose these machines with generic codes.

I just replaced my gear shifter only to find that the unit I took out needed a lick of grease in the mechanical bits. But before disassembling, can you compare with any other owner?

Coding the amber lights out is easy once you get the hang of coding in general which takes time and dedication and is not so simple. Some risk there if not done correctly. Start by looking at this video to get an idea of the complexity, then check Bimmergeeks if you think you want to try this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zf-7KVp3oU0

Post a picture or two! :-)

I'll have to look into the INPA. Not a windows user but will be well worth it to look into whatever going on.

I assume something like Carly or Bimmer code are out of the question when it comes to the side marker lights? I was going to purchase either app to code folding mirrors and lift gate up and down with key and dash button. But don't want to waste the money if its not going to work for everything im looking to do.

Only thing I have done to the car is a full clay, compound and wax. I also tinted windows 15% all around with Llumar film. Pic attached mid way through cleaning it up.

Im trying to find some affordable running boards and fender flares to give it a better look. Tires are in great condition so ill keep the wheels for a bit.

Nice. I like the sport seats! I have them in my E53 and I feel those are the most comfy seats. Of course everyone will have an opinion but for me those sport seats are it.

My E70 came with the 32,000 way adjustable comfort seats which are fairly common. But my wife loved the ventilated option which is nice to have in a black interior.

I don't know about Carly as I have always used Inpa and now moving towards ISTA/D. For coding I use NCSexpert tho I think there are other options. I use a Foxwell for my Cayenne but so far only to reset the oil service indicator. So, there are other options for the beamer, but from what I see on the board Inpa and Ista seem better for troubleshooting.

Thanks, I am shocked it even had sport seats as it seems pretty basic. A family friend also has a 2011 without sport seats and different wheels. I know many of these come with Pano Roof & Navigation right?

With Carly, you used to be able to code quite easily too, even the Amber outs, Carly is definitely more limited but for most people it does everything you want and they publish everything you can do on there website based on the generation of car you have., you just gave to but there bluetooth adapter which I think is 80 now, and it's a subscription service now, it used to be a one time fee, which if you had before they honor that and don't force you to change it. Also the newer version allows you to use the same account on android and ios, so in theory you could always "try" someone else's account as long as you have an adapter. That alpine white with the Ivory interior looks great, that was my first choice too, but settled with Silver and ivory. Hope you have fun with the E70, if maintenance right, they last a long time, 200k miles and now just starting to have issues

Nice E70. Makes me miss our diesel. It's been down for 9 months as it needs a trans.

I use Carly and recently started using INPA w/ NCSexpert. The former is user friendly and reasonably capable, but the latter is the way to go for full functionality. Even better if you can get ISTA+ running on the same installation. They all use the Ediabas underlay. I have yet to try ISTA.

I was an early adopter of Carly (back when it was BMWhat) and am grandfathered in so I keep using it from time to time. But lately I find I've been using the Foxwell and the laptop more often. Not sure I would opt for Carly now with the recurring fees.

It seemed so much better when it was BMwhat, how is the Foxwell? And which one do you have.. I've been thinking about using Foxwell or INPA

I use the Foxwell 520 pro. It's very capable, but painfully slow. A full vehicle scan takes about 10-15 minutes on newer BMW's.

OP, you won't get the same "drive and forget" type of reliability like the Lexus' but you've owned an e92 so I think you know what you are in for. Sorry, have no help on your code.
