2009 X5 30i Crank, No Start in Cold Weather

If this is happening to you in an E70 in cold weather, replace the Fuel Pump Relay. Part number 61368373700. It costs about $20.00 plus tax at the dealer. Replace it, get your fuel pressure back up, and it should start right up.

This PSA is brought to you by the letter "C" for "Cheap Fix".

Had this happen to me last winter. Thankfully, I had an E38 part out at the time and found 3 fuses that are direct replacements. Cost = $0

Ah this is might be why I had a hard start a few weeks ago in 25 degree F weather.

Thanks

I’ve heard that the ground strap from the engine to the chassis can have an affect on starting also. As it ages and corrodes the resistance will increase making it less effective. That, plus the starter drawing more amps when it’s cold can make the problem worse.

Easy way to test is to attach your ground jumper cable to the hoist/lift point on the engine and the other end to the “battery” ground lug under the hood, if it starts easier you may want to inspect your ground strap.

Just a thought.
