Does anyone use Optilube XPD?
Hey, guys, did the search but most of the threads are from a few years back. I bought a jug of Optilube XPD and am in the north east, do you guys recommend using it or just stay with no additives like BMW recommends?

He states that "if there was a need for an additive, it would have shown itself". I think having a "need" or an additive being beneficial are two different views. Of course BMW needs to cover their butt's, I get that. Unfortunately we are left to users of additives for feedback and not BMW. People rave about about Hot shots additive, I've never tried it. I like Lubro Moly because for one, they are a European company that I would hope has higher standards to be held by. And two, they've been around for a while and I've used many of their products without any negative feedback. Optilube seemed to have a lot of positive user feedback in various diesel forums when I first inquired, so I gave it a shot and have been fine using them. Thanks for the article link.

I have used Optilube XPD, their boost formula, Lubro Moly diesel additives and their purge for the past 2 years. I am also in the North East. I am currently using up the gallon of XPD I have. When I dont use any additive (which once a few tanks I'll run straight diesel for a full tank) there are minor differences that I have no way of proving except for a few MPG's lol. I do suggest swapping out your diesel fuel filter every 4 oil changes (or 20k miles) as per BMW's suggestion though.

I did on my 335d couldn’t tell any difference. Also tried it on my 7.3 psd and no difference. Most additives are unnecessary, except anti algae if you store the vehicle and your fuel has water (it all does)
In Houston we have 48 cetane diesel min. So it’s basically eurospec. I believe the d does best with 50 cetane. But never found the diesel cetane level made any real difference on a tuned car. Except maybe a slight reduction in idle noise. No difference in fuel economy on either diesel. If it does it’s so minor as to be undetectable. |
