Question 2007 X5 3.0is - No Audio iDrive stuck on Radio?

So I noticed that on the passenger side that there was a panel cover that is just under the footwell to the left of the glove box.

There what looked to be a Optical cable(red light in the center of the cable) that was not connected. I connected it back to the connected that was on the panel and put the panel back in its spot

No radio was working before I did this, went out this morning and started the X5 and iDrive boots but immediately goes to the Radio screen, there is no volume and the iDrive is not responsive. If I use the buttons on the dash I can switch modes etc...but no audio and the iDrive control is dead?

I tried a hard restart of the iDrive - No change
Unplugged the cable and no change
Scanned with ProTools no codes
No SOS on Dash

Here is a pic of the cover that I was able to find online

thoughts?

Ok Fixed but not sure why connecting the Optical cable broke it.

So disconnected the cable again and this time did a hard reset after disconnecting the cable and the iDrive is back to normal.

So now need to figure out what that optical cable is?

Any one?

The cover above holds the diagnostic port for the MOST fiber. That is where you hook up to update the software for the car. The fiber is a loop and needs to be connected in a loop for all components on that loop to function.

Pre-LCI items on the loop can include the CCC head unit, Logic 7 amp, TCU (SOS and BT phone), MULF (USB), Sat tuner, HD radio, DVD changer, heads up display

OK thanks a lot so if I am understanding your post then this should not be connected?

Update Port only?

Like I said if I connected it I lost all iDrive Functions, even after a hard reset

Disconnecting the Port and hard reset everything came back

So to be clear then this should be or should not be connected together on the back of the cover? I guess I can go to the other X5 that is the same model/year and check it...

thanks

I only thing that has never worked but is present is the BT. Would like to get this working just for the phone connectivity.

Any one have a link or diagram of the BUS system on the 2007 X5?

I know that it will vary some depending on the features you have. But just a general flow.

I just find it odd that with the Optic cable not connected the iDrive works fine but connected its dead?

Only issues that I have had that would be related to the iDrive would be the damn SOS message and the fact the X5 is coded for BT but the link cant be found?

thanks

Should be some pdfs floating around that discuss this....

perhaps:

(The "no" in your first post was the confusing part...FWIW)

I know this thread is a couple years old, but can you explain how this reset is done?
Is it a combination of buttons?

My Idrive knob and joystick controls work perfectly, but the enter (knob press down) is intermittent.
