Auto dimming mirror problem

My passenger door mirror is almost un-usable due to the coating having an issue where it is very dark brown and streaked. I assume the coating is the auto dimming material. Does anyone know if this coating can be peeled off or is the only fix to get a new very expensive mirror glass?

I bought replacement knock off via eBay. Upgraded to panoramic at the same time.

The knock off weren't as sharp off focus but the total elimination of blind spots was with it (also all four of mine and wife's were failing like yours so it was amazing to have clear mirrors again)
