Ok bmw is trying to squeeze it in and get me back on the road today. $1600 for the water pump. My warranty is willing to pay $850-$100 deductible. I am not going to fight the warranty today, but nowhere in my contract did it say they will only pay part of the cost of the repair. They also wanted to ship the part to the dealership, but agreed to cover up to $400 parts cost.

We called every car rental place that came up in a google search of the area. We called Penske and uhual. Best we could do is pay like $700 for a 2 day rental of a truck. That would only get me home to my car, then I would have to drive back down and pick up the family and then drive back home. Now BWM says they can get it done today. It is going to cost me $900 or so out of pocket. They also said my expansion tank is leaking, but not bad. They said it would be fine to drive back to St. Louis. I will probably do it myself. They wanted $400 for it.

When my wife's '13 was off the road and the indy eventually got his insurance involved we were told to get a rental. Local (Bolivar, MO) took 4 days to produce a RWD Nissan to fill the request for an AWD X5 equivalent. Reliable are reasonable to deal with and sound like they are taking care of you. It is not a big job despite what you may have been told. For a factory tech it should be done in an hour or so as my indy can do it in not much more.
Expansion tank take 15 minutes I have been told but am willing to be corrected.
GL.

I was told 1.5 hours for the expansion tank. But they are getting it done today which is great. They also said under further looking the expansion tank had to be replaced before it was driven. $2000 to get work done. Warranty is paying $750 better then nothing.

OUCH! But you are getting on the road home today with your own car so a little glimmer of sunshine there. (Pun intended.)
Be prepared for a long list of "other" repair they think you need. We had the '01 in two years ago and they came out with $3700 worth of gasket repairs needed. $600 alone for the OFHG. I had mye indy do that $30 gasket and he charged $80 labor. They claimed I needed an OPG but he could not find any leaks at all.

Yeah since renting the uhual or Penske was close to $700 due to availability, I would much rather pay the $2000 repair bill. If it would have happened around home I would probably have just done it myself. Oh well we were lucky. We were within a couple of miles from the hotel and only 5 miles from the bmw dealer when this happened. And the biggest right now I can afford to pay it. Not that I want to, but there have been times recently $2000 would have not been possible.

I don't know what mileage your per year but keep the WP/TS in the back of your mind as you approach the magic failure number. Newer pumps are supposed to be better but..
I'm sure you and the family were relived to leave the Ozarks. Look out for the class action. You might be able to join it. Receipts are a must.
