changing headlight lens
![]() AS you can see my lights are very hazy. I did try methenol on the inside of exhibit A, but the outer lens wasnt sanded and polished yet ![]() Then found new lenses on ebay for about $50 and couldnt resist. As the picture shows, it has a few screws inside the lens. Will they pull off with the lens if i put them in the oven at 200F for 10-15 minutes? If not the plan is to get the cutting wheel cutting. Thanks guys.

There are a few youtube vids that cover it. The one I saw said that it wasnt much of a benefit to put it in the oven. He cut close to the edge, heated locally with a heat-gun and pulled the glued edge bits off in strips.
I've not done mine yet...

^That's the best way to do it, and how I did it. Cutting tool. Skip the oven as it's too risky to other components of the light and still won't get the lens to release without a lot of fighting.

Yup. Dremel / Heat Gun / Pliers to pull pieces away. Make sure you give yourself enough plastic on the lens to grab onto with pliers.

I guess I would have answered my own question with time. The headlight is almost too big for my oven anyways. A heat gun and vice grips is definitely the way.
I would also say to have some epoxy around to fix the screw tabs that will probably break off from the inner gray shield where the screws come through from the back into the lens. You can't see them so not a big deal. Try to heat the butyl caulk up as much as possible before adding it in the groove of the headlight assembly. You probably don't need much more than just filling the groove. Adding too much makes it harder to get together. Pinch the lens to the headlight assembly with vice grips and a ratchet strap would probably work pretty good as well. When reinstalling, I would leave all the headlight screws out until you get the brace/bracket put back in from under the inner fenders. I would also say to loosen all of the surrounding bolts from up top around the light and including the fender to help the bracket to go back in the track easier. Also make sure you clean the top lip of the bumper (Where the bottom of the lights sit) because you can see the dirt through the bottom of the lens after installed.

When I did this, I ground down a flat head screwdriver to use as a custom chisel to get out the butyl with a heat gun.
If you want to upgrade your halos, nows the time to do it. Took me longer to do my headlights than it did to replace my front end suspension. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk |
