Was my uncles x5 a unicorn spec?

Hi guys, wondering if anyone has a similar spec to my uncles old ride.

It was a 2008 black on black 4.8 with comfort and ventilated seats, HUD, soft close doors, rear window shades and climate control, sport package with I think a dealer add-on gloss black trim accents on the bottoms of the front and rear bumpers – I think it’s called the aerodynamics kit. Probably a bunch of standardish options I’m forgetting (heated seats, power tailgate, dynamic headlights, large screen Idrive etc etc) and if I had the vin it’d certainly help.

The car looked stunning on some wicked 20 inch black rims and drove like a beast. We added a trailer hitch which completed the ride.

Sadly the car was lost in family matters (involving a wife) and never seen again.

Was feeling nostalgic and been looking around on autotrader and cannot find anything close to that spec. All that I can find are base models claiming to be “fully loaded” with push-to-start!

Are you xoutpost guys hoarding all the good spec e70s?

Not really. The 4.8s were more heavily optioned on average by their buyers. Are you looking locally only? If so, you may want to expand your search. When looking for a heavily optioned build I typically have to travel to at least another city, and often enough, even another state to get what I'm looking for.

I agree on the too often used "fully loaded" moniker. People use that term even on strippers and it's an annoying sales pitch.

Woops, I just realized before hitting post that you are located in Canada. I don't know anything about how people optioned there or the market. Good luck with your search. His X5 may have actually been a unicorn up there.

Ahh, I see. I’m searching all of Canada and only have 53 results for an 07-10 x5. Not many around I guess and not sure if the search is actually working correctly. About half of the results are 4.8s but none have the rarer options such as ventilated seats and soft close doors.

I always forget how big the US is compared to Canada. Our whole population is not even equivalent to that of California!

Winter is also a bad season to find good examples of any car so I’ll check later in the spring

FYI I did a quick and dirty search on autotraders Canadian site for 07-10 4.8 (V8) X5s for the all of Canada (National location) and it pulled up 67 results. Filtering out for other options is obviously going to reduce the list, but I typically do a broad search because people don't always tag the listing correctly.

I have found Canadian vehicles are frequently better optioned than the US versions. There are a lot of lux imports to the US for that reason.

Is there a reason you are not looking for the LCI vehicles? The later examples tend to have more options added than early examples. The technology is better overall.

Try 2012 and 2013 for your X5 search. I have found some of these unicorns, but few and far between. Search often, and be ready to move when you find it.

I searched for years to find the minimum options I wanted.

The one vehicle I found that had 'everything,' had been abused. Based on the inspection, appears to have been air-born at some point. Truly unique X5. Not one missing option. Had to walk away and not look back. Have not found one of those since.

Good luck!

Ventilated seats is the more difficult option you listed, to find in the US. They are out there, but don't show up often. Easy to find one or two of the good options, but hard to find single vehicle with all the options.
