New and about to beat a dead horse.

Evening gents. My name's Brian. Just bought an E70 as my DD and I have a question that's probably been answered but vBulletin's search and me don't get along.

The car in question is a '12 E70, 35i, and I suddenly lost the radio sound, chimes, bluetooth, all AUX inputs, and threw an SOS malf. I sustected a bad telematics unit so I fiber looped it. That brought back the chimes and radio, but I still have no BT or AUX, and I get the SOS malf. Anyone else run into this? In the back of the truck I see what I believe to be the telematics unit, power amp, and some little black box that I haven't identified. To my understanding, the SAT radio module can cause this problem but they're built into the CIC headhunt. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated!

Telematics via Combox has BT, Aux and SOS all built into it. That would explain why you got those errors when you bypassed it. Post a pic of what is back there for better assistance.

The module mounted to the side is what I thought was the TCU or Combox. That's the one I looped. I believe the larger unit closer to the camera is the amp, and the small black box at the top I'm totally unsure of.

small black box with the magenta connector is the bluetooth antenna

I have a problem with the bluetooth module, some kind of corrupt firmware issue that won't allow my iphone to show connected on the nav screen. The phone connects fine and bluetooth streaming works, but i can't access contacts or last number dialed, etc. from the nav screen.

A point of interest (and my opinion) is that area has seen moisture and is possibly your issue. The white chalky substance on the aluminum is a tell tale sign.

I had side view camera issues a while back and when I went back to that area, it was soaked. I guess a drain backed up and it allowed water to dump down that rear C frame, behind all the trim, and right on the electronics. Luckily I caught it quickly, stopped it, unplugged everything, removed the modules and let them dry out.

My guess is you have had water damage to a module.

There was a youtube video by samcrac where he troubleshooted a 2012 M6 with whole bunch of failed electronics. He tracked the root cause to a plugged up sunroof drain that left poodles of water saturating the driver footwell and all the modules that resides in that area.

Once he dried up all the modules and replaced a few broken one, the car was good to go.

So if it was a water issue and a module is bad (I suspect the combox) in theory I can just grab one on eBay that matches my vin and recode it?

Also, I remember someone else on the forum having the same problem and the dealer found an issue with a comfort access door handle. Ive just realized that my pass rear handle doesn't work for comfort access but every other handle does. Plausible?

If the ebay combox is from a car with iDrive, it won't need to be recoded. But if it came from a car with just the pro radio, BT audio will need to be enabled via coding.
