Repair 2011 X5 or DOA?

Took the wife's car into the indy shop and was floored at the issues her SAV (E70) has. 1. Turbo solenoid valve is bad, $4900 to replace the entire Turbo (BMW parts only, said aftermarket has issues). 2. Valve cover gasket again, $1600. 3. Oil pan gasket, $2300. It's a 2011 X5 35i w/ sport package (Odo: 160K) so in good condition it might be worth 10-12K. Most of it is above my skill level, only done the brakes and fluids. Repair it, or sell as is far below value?

I'd cut my losses at this point with those repair prices if you cannot get them done for cheaper. Considering you are already at an Indy, sell the car and move on. No point putting 8k into a 10k car, its still worth 10k

BS IMO.

I’d also want to know how- SPECIFICALLY- they have determined a bad solenoid requires the whole turbo be replaced??? The turbo boost solenoid is like $70, right?

I’d spend a lot more time getting a good diagnosis. And frankly, if you want to be driving nice cars, I’d spend a bit more learning how to repair them. its not hard, it IS scary… but it can be learned. ESPECIALLY with YouTube these days…

Those prices would make me vomit on the spot. I don't know what you do for a living, but maybe having a mechanic friend help in return for what you're capable of wouldn't be a bad idea. I'd certainly get the wife's take on the car's value to aid in the decision making process.
