2008 3.0SD - Driveshaft popped out

How common is it that a front drive axle pop out of the transfercase side? I was backing out of the driveway with full steering lock and something happened, i felt the engine vibrate a hell of alot and there was a rotating sound when i carefully tried to get the car back in the driveway.

After i parked it i looked under the front and there hangs the left front axle with the boot on the transfercase side. My first thought was how the hell did this happen - then i remembered that i have read about alot of axle problems on the newer LCI models.

How hard is it to assemble this back together again?

Usually happens because the axle was not completely engaged into the differential.

Shows up about once a year on xoutpost.

I always to a test fit without the c clip to determine how far in is 100% then redo with the c clip in.

Its the tripodhub that slip out of the collar on the inner cv joint part thats into the transfer case. I now lost a bearing/roller wheel on that tripod and seems like i have to replace the complete axle to get it proper..

Did it 'slip out' or did the joint fail?

Hope it is sorted by now...
