Changed power steering pump, hot fluid after 1 minute

It's also leaking from the pressure release on the cap. With it getting hot after 5 seconds and bubbling in the reservior I assume this is air trapped in the pump? I've tried bleeding the system, albeit quickly with no luck

Afternoon. I've replaced the steering pump, with the dreaded adaptive drive or whatever it is (tandem pump)

So I'm just filling it up and trying to bleed it, but it's frothy and warm after probably not even a minute. Everything is nipped up, so I can only assume it's air in the system?

It's CHF 11s

Geez, Adaptive Drive, I have no personal experience, unfortunately. I have to assume there is a very specific BMW procedure; did you consult it?

I've searched thinking there might be a certain procedure, but I've not found anything, so I assume not no.

If you have a scan tool with BMW specific functions there is an adaptive drive bleed setting but the bleed procedure is turning the wheel from lock to lock (all the way left, all the way right) about 20 times to bleed the system. Just do it until no more bubbles come up. I would have the front tires jacked up to do this as it’s generally less tiring.
You must use chf11s fluid in this system also.

Hi cody. laptop is in 2 pieces which has ISTA on it. I may have dropped it down the stairs 😤 I'll have to get another one second hand and download it again.

I'll do a search for this setting anyway in the meantime see what the score is.
Car is already on jack stands. I took the belt off and I've been turning the pump by hand to try and get any air out, as well as turning the wheel lock to lock with engine off too. If I have engine on I literally lose a lot of fluid rather quickly.
I tried firing the car up earlier but the battery needs a bit more juice in it to get it going. I didn't lose any, so it's a glimmer of hope.

Is it actually hot or is there just a lot of air.

Both. Air and warm after about a minute.

You said if you have the engine on you lose a lot of fluid? And this is all from the cap? As in the reservoir is pressurizing? Sounds like you have the pressure and return lines backwards. Swap them and see if that fixes it. .
