I'll give it a try probably a bit later this week, but I went ahead and made an appointment to go into the shop. If it's the starter it needs the shop, if it's that cable (since I am pretty sure it is not the connection itself as I can see that) it needs the shop. I think I've eliminated the stuff I could do myself anyway.

At least I have a competent shop I can go to. They just stay so busy it always takes several days.
