Trunk opens part way and won't close
I have a 2011 X5 diesel. A few years ago, the trunk lid started occasionally not wanting to close. I noticed it happened on hot days when parked in the sun. It didn't have the symptoms of the tail gate being open. It has steadily gotten worse and now it won't open all the way and won't close at all unless I wrestle with it by hand. My mechanic said the wires get pinched and worn in the hinge part of the trunk. Has anyone else had similar problems? How can I diagnose the problem? Most of what I find on the web has to do with the tail gate sensor but I pretty sure that ain't it. Thanks in advance! |

I pulled the rubber boot over the wiring loom free and found damaged wires like the mechanic described but it didn't affect my trunk lid. That was from water in the switch. I removed the rubber boot and it worked fine without the boot that ironically held water in. With a proper scanner you can read the button press values real-time to help determine where the fault lies.
