wire harness for trailer?

I have the vehicle from my signature with 3rd row seating. It has a tow bar so one would think it has a light harness somewhere stock from the factory? Im now almost sure i need to add one. i tried to delete this thread but cant for some reason.

Is there no plug next to the tow hitch? I think all or most E70s have the towing module (AHM) but I might not be remembering right. My 2012 had it and had the factory 7-pin connector by the tow hitch.

I installed a brake controller and there is a four-pin plug ready for it. I had to buy pins but other than that it was plug-and-play.

For whatever it's worth, my 2008 did not come with module, hitch, or harness. PO put an aftermarket hitch on, but no harness. They only used it for a bike rack. I purchased the BMW hitch + harness on a black Friday many years ago but haven't found the time to put it on.

Point being, just because there's a hitch on there, doesn't mean you necessarily have the harness. Could be an aftermarket hitch, could even be a BMW one, but whoever put it on didn't install the harness.

My 2012 says "Tow ready" but there was nothing related to it. I got a hitch (U-Haul/Curt) at a pick-n-pull for like $30 and ordered the tow module from ECS tuning. Installed it myself and coded with Protools. First tow was with 4,000 pounds of edging stones for a garden project. Poor trailer said it had a 1,700 lbs capacity! Oops! It was only like 10 miles and then I unloaded it. Two things that I had forgotten: an empty trailer makes a lot of racket when driving over road imperfections and 2nd, I had forgotten how hard is to back up with a trailer as it had been like 40 years when I drove my Grandpa's CJ5 with his army surplus trailer!
