Latest article by Autobild on new X5
----------------------------------- The cars from tomorrow BMW stretches the X5, Mercedes ennobles the C-class, Porsche improves the Targa - and Mazda makes legs for the 3er. Click for more pics 13.06.2006 - BMW X5 is a phenomenon. The order entrance diminishes even in the last production year hardly. A heavy inheritance for the successor. But BMW learned. Design and other experiments those for native of Munich with other model rows made (diagonal optics withthe 1er, cheap seeming withthe X3). To the new X5 applies: hold to the proven one. Although the X5 was much too expensive in the production, also the second generation becomes inside as outside the Premium requirement fair. The stylists formally went safe: The strengths of the first draft were stressed, the few weaknesses one was eliminated to a large extent. Although the car with the development number has E70 in the late autumn 2006 premiere, the European sales begins only at the beginning of of 2007. The X5 is built again in Spartanburg/USA. Because the Americans belong to the principal clients, one can order the E70 as also M-class, Q7 and XC90 with a third seat row. This when desired electrically adjustable bank diminishes the trunk volume, however especially place offers for seven persons. Driving dynamics was always already the large strengthof the X5. Those want to further remove this projection/lead by technology native of Munich by the dynamic xDrive all-wheel drive. The new system controls the situation-dependent torque distribution in all four directions: between the axles (in front/in the back) and between the wheels (left/right). One distributes as a function of slip and crosswise as well as longitudinal acceleration. A goal are not only optimal traction and stability, but also the decoupling of the steering element of drive influences. After the V12 in the 7er in the X5 of the V8 to Direkteinspritzung one changes over. First only the system planned for Europe promises with reduced emissions a consumption smaller around at least ten per cent. While the 4,4-Liter-Sauger is to carry 394 HP out, the more potent Biturbo has the ML 63 AMG (510 HP) and the Cayenne turbo S in the visor (521 HP). The volume models are content as had with the row six-cylinders, which might mobilize maximally 272 HP as Diesels and as Benziner. Source |

Do those wheels look small to anybody? I wonder if the reveal will sport some incredible 20" rims...that will really change the look of whatever it is we are seeing thus far.

Quote:
Dunno about this wheel size race, as the diminishing sidewalls and aspect ratio are making 20" tires look like rubber bands these days. Maybe a lil' more sidewall and some bigger "meats" would fill the wheel well "look" better? BR,mD

I think it looks kinda weird. The front end looks mean and I might like that, but the bulges over the back wheels seem to be too big...
