Adjustable Air Suspension in the new X5?
My question is, will the new X5 have adjustable suspension such as Comfort and Sport, and will there be a significant difference between the two? I know with softer suspension comes less handling and I know the primary reason in getting a BMW is the performance handling, but is it too much to ask for both? I want to put it in Sport mode when I am cruising Highway 1 in California, but on trips carting around the wife or grandparents, a softer ride would be a huge bonus. I feel guilty watching 80 year old heads (my grandparent’s) bouncing around like a bobble-head. I especially try and avoid pot-holes when they are in the X5. If the new X5 does have that and it actually makes a difference, I am sold. -- Jonny 2005 X5 4.4i Sterling Gray / Gray Interior Packages: Premium Sport Rear Climate Premium Sound Navigation Comfort Seats 19" Rims Upgraded audio with the addition of a sub and amp |

My 4.8is with its full air suspension is quite comfortable actually. What BMW need to make adjustable is the damping, perhaps using magnetic dampers that respond instantly to a change in current (becoming firmer or softer as appropriate for the road conditions and speed). That would iron out most of the issues. The M5/M6 already deploys such a technology and are very comfortable on even the roughest roads. I would expect the next X5/X6 to use similar technology.

BMW should have done the adjustable supension with the current X5! They did for the HSE Range Rover, "The English Patient".
