With gas prices the way they are, it might not be such a great idea to banging bigger displacement engines into new models... when Detroit does it they get slammed, when BMW does it's overlooked. I have a feeling that this time it's not going to get overlooked, people are looking for vehicles with better gas mileage these days.

If you can fork over the 70k US for the V8 X5 you probably are not that concerned over the price of the fuel.

Perhaps, but in BMW's latest engines they managed to increase output while also increasing efficiency (i.e. more fuel effecient). Through weight savings, double vanos, twin turbos (see the new 3 coupe), etc. they're able to satisfy both angles.

Did the Lotto Win money run out already?

Did parole finally come up?

search parties got lost and never returned,

G has a very good point, imo...

For the really well off/noveau riche/co car/lease gang
it may not matter much.

Joe Six Pack, who has been dying to move up to a
BeamER may think twice about giant V8s...

Dunno.

Price point may be a prob., too; hell even retired guys
with some dough, no bills, no mort., are gonna think
about 60+++ for a new ride.

Money isnt the issue....maybe it is the principle.....when gas prices hit $4 in a couple of weeks especially with that BP thing in Alaska causing an 8% hit(read:+30cents/gallon), then this engine and extra weight wont look so good. I hope im wrong. I really hope the timing of this isnt what i think it is.
