saw the new 2007 , its looks awesome, love the hood and the styling , IMO this will be a top seller for BMW , and will easily out pace ML or Q7

only in pictures, but I am already grooling over buying it, I heard its out in sept.

I have owned several mercedes since 1990, and I own a 2003 ML500 going to trade in if possible as well, the 5 series is starting to really grow on me, but now, after seeing the x5, its really grown on.

I hope the next 5 series gets that hood

Granted, this is a little biased b/c I just bought the ML350, and I will agree that the new X5 looks much better than expected however, when I compared the two, several things stood out to favor the ML...

Base price of ML is more than $3K cheaper
Interior of ML looks MUCH nicer IMO (X5 looks VERY plain)
ML350 is faster than the new X5 3.0
Exterior is a toss up as both look very sporty

I feel the areas that will make the X5 more attractive is simply the 3rd row seat but this looks very cramped but I wish my ML had this. Also, I'm interested to hear how the ride is. I got my ML with Airmatic Suspension and this thing rides like you're floating on clouds! VERY SMOOOOTH. If the new X5 can accomplish this, then I think it's very good competition for the ML but to say it will "easily outpace the ML" is a little presumptuous.

Don't get me wrong...I really like what I've seen so far about the new X5 and I'm interested to see how others feel about it after owning it.

when you compared the two?? how pray tell did you accomplish this? press pictures have only been released for a few days and liitle else is known about the car from a factual ride, handling, room, comfort perspective outside of the press release. is official pricing even out at this time? some comparison this must have been!

Here ya go...

http://www.caranddriver.com/carnews/...-unveiled.html

The comparisons I'm making aren't needed to sit in the SUV (price, 0-60 time) and the exterior/interior is subjective either way. I don't know how the new X5 handles and that's why I'm interested to hear about it soon. When people get a chance to drive it.

how long ago did you purchase your ML350? i notice in this post you state "comparisons I'm making" (present tense) and in your previous post you state "when I compared the two" (past tense) unless you purchased your ML350 a week ago, you had nothing to compare. if you are comparing what little real info is available on the E70 X5 to validate your purchase decision, that is completely different from comparing to make a go or no go decision.

Alright Mike, without making this too complicated, I purchased my ML350 two weeks ago. What I'm comparing is (I meant to type compare btw as obviously I didn't compre this when I purchased my ML) are some key facts in any car purchase decision, Price and Performance in terms of speed, in this case, 0-60 results that C&D got between the two vehicles. Again, looks IMO are equal with the interior going to the ML. So again, I'm making comparisons based on this. Now...back to my point. I don't feel, based on some of these comparisons that the X5 will fare all that much better than ML sales. That's it. That's my point. I like the X5 Mike. Nothing against. I still feel I made a good purchase decision. I'm not trying to validate that. The reviews for the ML have been very good. I expect them to be good for the X5 too.

yeah....caranddriver got those o-60 times from the same bmw press release i have already read. your point is taken however with respect to which manufacturer will win the consumer grab-bag wars. i personally don't care. i have never purchased a vehicle with an eye on how well it will be received by others. if speed versuses price is how you establish value.....it is your dough. and now finally that you can line up one purty picture with another and examine speed statistics and come away feeling good about your purchase, i am simply tickled for you.

I am sure we will see the reviews in mags before its release and the comparos. I have driven the 1st gen ML and the 2nd gen ML. The 2nd gen is improvement on 1st but I still like my 4.8is drive and handling much better. Smooth drive is very typical of Japanese cars. Drive a Lexus and its smoother than new ML. BMWs are about performance and handling. My .02 cents.
