I'm a bit confused by the comparison that some of you guys are making. While it's true enough that the sticker on a X5 4.8i with all the newest bells and whistles is kinda ridiculous, the new X5 really doesn't seem to be much more on an apples-to-apples basis.
Consider the comparison of a fairly well optioned 4.8i vs. a 2006 4.4i: ________________________4.8i_________4.4i Base price____________$54,500 _____$53,600 Destination___________$___695______$___695 Heated rear seats_____$___350______$___350 Cold weather package__$___900______$___750 Heated stearing wheel ___Inc.______$___150 Premium package ______$_2,550______$_2,500 Premium sound package_$_1,800______$_1,200 CD Changer_______________Inc.______$___600 (?) Rear climate package__$___900______$___400 Sports package________$_3,600______$_1,600 19" Wheels_______________Inc.______$___950 Total_________________$65,295______$62,795 So, we're basically talking about $2,500 extra for the bigger engine and other performance refinements introduced in the new model. Not sure what folks were expecting, but this doesn't seem too far out of line to me. Am I missing something? Were people expecting the new options to be free? |

I agree with caseyschulte.
I've priced out my 01 X5 and the price is comparable to the E70 with the same options. In addition to the current X5 options there is the Active Steering, Tech package, 20 inch wheels, HD radio, Sat Radio, HUD, 3rd road seat, napa leather, Auto Tailgate, comfort access, active seat package. All these options total an additional $14,560. I've built a fully loaded ML550 on the MBUSA site and it costs $75,730 versus the E70 $79,855. The difference is at the base price which the ML550 is $49,975 versus the E70's $54,500. I attribute the difference to the E70 having the 4yr maintenance and some more options (HUD, Comfort Acess, etc) and the ML having parts from the Chryslers bin. The Range Rover Sport Supercharge from Ford fully loaded is $76,050 and it doesn't come close in performance and options (besides the cooler box) to the E70. With a fully loaded E70 at $79,855, this might give us a better idea what a E70 5.4L might cost. I say it would roughly cost ~$85,000 in line with the base of the M5. But first I need to get the new X5 into my database. Where are these prices coming from? If I can get a complete list, I'll enter them. |

I found it. It's on the sixth page. I'll get the prices into my database, then post a new thread with supporting links giving credit where credit is due.
