Yeah - I hear ya. I use manual mode quite a bit in my 4.4. I've learned to anticipate the delay and in that regard, I think it works great. I very rarely manually shift into first gear though and usually start off in 2nd which works well. The only time I use first is when I'm starting up a hill...
