production of current 4.8is' ?

When will the production of current X5 4.8is' cease? I know the 3.0 and 4.4 have their replacements and probably won't be bnuilt anymore, but what about the 4.8is. Will they stopped being built as well, or will they sell for a little longer just like the M3 did with the new 3 series that came out...

It will be a little longer. That way BMW can milk sales...

xx3, are you suggesting that with the production of the E70 beginning now (immediately after the line is switched over), that BMW will continue to produce the old E53 on the same production line? Sounds unlikely to me.

Completely different story with the E46, since there were multiple factories that produced them and they switched the factories over one at a time. Difficult to do with a single factory, even with the flexible manufacturing systems they have.

The E53 4.8 is no longer shown on the configurator at BMW.ca, suggesting that the only ones available are already in production or are built.

No no no, I meant that BMW will wait a while before introducing the new 4.8is replacement.

E53 production has long been stopped.

Its a little different for the E46, because each bodystyle is manufactured in different factories. Basically several plants build the sedan, and 1 plant builds the other variants (coupe, cabrio, touring). So all the main plants switched over to the E90, while the 'speciality' plant kept making the E46 variants (regensburg plant I believe) until April 06'...

OK, but that wasn't the question. The OP asked when the E53 4.8 was stopping (ceasing).

I think I understood the E46 example, see my post.

I was just clarifying. Now next time you can actually tell the story, as it unfolded...

No biggie, but shouldn't we be trying to reduce confusion, and not add to it? It was a pretty simple question from the OP. Rant over.

I think proper forum etiquette would be to not hijack the thread... but we've already passed that domain...

I would have edited my post earlier had I realized that I made a mistake earlier... I honestly thought he was asking when the 4.8is replacement would come out and thus I replied accordingly.

No need to be bitter about the E46 story. Next time you spew incorrect information, I'll just take a step back, let it pass, and won't correct it. Deal?
