You can see U.S. pricing on LemansX5's page: http://www.xoutpost.com/userpage.php?userid=21
and presumably the Canadian prices will be about the same (converting for the currency exchange).

FWIW, I think you'll get the price up to CAN$90K pretty quickly. From what I can tell, getting the new 4.8i equipped similarly to the "old" 4.6is or 4.8is will put the price pretty close to US$70K (i.e., about the price of those prior "X.Xis" models).

I priced one out ("loaded" the way I'll want it) using the U.S. price sheet referenced above, and MSRP looks like US$73,395 , which is actually MORE than I paid for my 2003 4.6is (primarily because this new one has SO many cool options!).

IOW, while the 4.8i base price looks pretty reasonable compared to the previous 4.8is, there's a ton of stuff that the 2007 base price does NOT include that was previously standard on the 4.8is...

Having said that, I'd take the X5 over the Mercedes anyday. The only real contest for me was with the Cayenne (S or Turbo), and I just can't live with how UGLY the Cayenne is compared to the X5. So I'll be getting another (my third!) X5 shortly!

FWIW, I'm hearing different things from different BMW dealers. Some say they have NO info, and can't even talk about specific options, pricing, etc., let alone take orders. Others say they've already placed several orders, but haven't gotten production numbers for any of them yet. I'm guessing most of the dealers will be able to take/place orders within another 2-3 weeks.

So that being said, SeattleYates, do you think I should consider buying a slightly used current 4.8is or wait for the new ones and buy it with the fun features getting the 3.0?

I see that as primarily a question of your personal lust for power vs. gadgets. You could load up a new 2007 3.0 with LOTS of options for around the price of a used 4.8is, but in the end you only have the power of a 3.0. Not that there's anything wrong with that (I remember when I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee with 225hp, and it was supposedly the most powerful SUV on the market!).

OTOH, if you buy a used 4.8is, you'd be getting a fantastic (VERY FAST) vehicle that is loaded with goodies, and the only drawback is that they're "yesterday's" goodies.

I guess one other issue (and it was perhaps the toughest one for me) is that the colors for the 2007 X5 are pretty boring. No Estoril blue. No Imola red. If you love black, white, or silver, you're in good shape. But I'm not sure I've ever seen a prettier color on a vehicle than Estoril blue, and I'm really going to miss that.

Personally, if I was choosing between a new 3.0 and a used (assuming it's not TOO used) 4.8is, the used 4.8is would win hands down.

I like your thinking.

Also, are we talking a significant boost in price? I've been seeing usually-equipped 06 X5's at around $50,000 or so. Since the MRSP has gone up around $3,000 yet the ~$1500 or so steptronic is included, will decently equipped 07's be in the $53-54k or so?

Ok, but what about a new 4.8i vs a slightly used 4.8is? Which one then?

In that case, power is very similar, so I see it as primarily a matter of:
1. Cost -- a used 4.8is (or 4.6is for that matter) will cost significantly less than a comparably equipped 4.8i. However, warranty -- also a cost issue -- will last longer on a new 4.8i, so that's a complicating factor.
2. Styling -- I personally like the style of the 4.Xis better than the new E70 (old style looks smaller and more muscular, and has (IMO) some better color choices)...but you might like the E70 style better
3. Gadgets -- the E70 definitely has cooler gadgets (e.g., head-up display, much nicer screen, back-up camera & graphics, etc.).

You have to weigh the relative importance of those three issues, and see where you end up. I've been struggling with them myself (whether to get a new 4.8i or keep my 4.6is), and have just in the last 24 hours(!) been going back and forth and back and forth! Arghh!
