e70 4.8i upgrade to be faster than outgoing 4.8is?

What do you guys think can be done to the upcoming 4.8i to get the extra horsepower and torque needed to outperform the outgoing 4.8is?

could 20 more horsepower and torque be had for a relatively cheap price... say less than $5K in the aftermarket?

I don't think I "need" more performance beyond the outgoing 4.8is .... this just maybe a mental block that I gave myself since I am sure the price tag for the upcoming "is" replacement will be out of my realm so I got to live as close to the dream as possible in the 4.8i with slight mods.

Thanks

Curtis

You can at least add 15-20HP by doing the Eisenhaus exhaust mod for that price.

I will have to do a search for that mod here on the forum and read the user impressions of it. It is pretty pricey for an exhaust mod but if it delivers then it should be worth it.

What other acceptable mods are there that actually give usable performance gains besides just some number increase?

You RARELY get dyno proven HP out of an exhaust mod on a BMW. The exception being the E46 M3, where they changed to cat's to meet US regulations.
You may get some power out of an intake, which is where you can usually get some power out of a BMW.

I am sure I probably won't want to pay the super high price for the performance version of the e70. so I figure I could put a little money here and there on the regular 4.8 or maybe even 3.0 to get some extra oomph out of them. doesn't have to be a lot. It just needs to be noticeable so I can feel like I actually got something for my money.

Guys, remember it's an SAV. Not a 3-series. The base X5 3.0i will be faster than many SUVs out there

good point. You are correct. Maybe I will save some money and get the 3.0 loaded out.

The only thing missing will be the 20" wheels

I will have to track those down after the purchase. It looks like everything that is available on the 4.8 is also avail on the 3.0.
