It likely won't change, although it's all purely speculation at this point.

Exactly. Bit noisier but much less dust.

Ceramic brakes are a $15,000 option on a Ferrari. Maybe BMW will make that available for that price- hahahaha

Anyone know why it appears the X5 has more than usual? None of my current vehicles have anywhere near the amount that I see on the X.

With as well as a BMW stops, I'll take the brake dust any day. Seriously doubt that the E70 will have any less dust, probably more if it uses larger brakes.

This question was asked a while back at a BMWCCA meet at BMW NA HQ....and simply said, we have 'dusty' pads because the material they use is much less prone to noise (compared to the material used in Europe), and the material is also very soft so that it will not warp the brake rotors or wear them down. Unfortunately the result of this is that we have a lot of brake dust.
There are a lot of aftermarket pads out there that have a lot less brake dust and work just as well, and I haven't heard of any issues with warped rotors using aftermarket pads....so all I can tell you is what we were told from BMW NA. Regardless, the brakes on these trucks work very very well....and more likely your problem will be watching the guy behind you almost rear end you when you have to do a panic stop on the highway because you stopped much sooner than he did. |
