4.8is replacement?

Hello everyone, this is my first post. I'm wondering if there has been any information released about the replacement for the 4.8is. I love mine, but the ML63 is pretty tempting. If the 4.8is replacement is as hot as the AMG ML, I'll be willing to wait a bit for it.

Thanks for the info...

John

BMW will come out with "is" version of E70 in early 2008 as per latest reports. It will have a bi-turbo V8 with HP a lot more than the new M3.
Also coming is X6 which will have an ///M badge version. BMW knows what competition from Audi and MB is and will have a winner.

Wow bi turbo v8 is going to be a beast. Can't wait to snag one of those on the used market in 2010 (seems so far away...wow).

there is a thread somewhere here about an article comparing the srt8, 4.8is, cayenne turbo, and a couple of other SUVs. the 4.8is has the fastest speed in the slalom, which, unless i'm wrong(and please let me know), means that the 4.8is handles better than the srt8 (63.7mph for the 4.8is versus 63.5 for the cherokee) here's the article.

Given that the difference you note is only 0.2 mph, I'd still conclude the Jeep is also a great handling machine. Having said that, I still prefer my X, but the point is yes, the Jeep is good in a straight line, but handling is also a virtue not to be dismissed. .2 mph is so close that those numbers could easily have been reversed given a different day, track, driver, weather, etc...

I was able to take the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 out on the autobann and not only was it fast and a beast, but handling and stability was much better than I expected. However the rear seat was cramped, cargo capacity was less than mediocre, it is a total gas guzzler, and I felt every bump in the road, so I decided that I would rather spend an extra $25k on the E70 4.8i for sure.

i never said that the srt8 wasn't a great handling machine, just that the 4.8is handled better. i've seen slalom times for the 4.8is that were worse than the srt8, but called me biased, all that means to me is that the driver wasn't pushing the 4.8is to it's potential.
