2007 X5 or Escalade

Just responding to the way you put it in your paragraph.

I can truthfully say the X5 is a comfortable ride on a long trip. No it does not float like an Escalade. And no it is not as smooth as the Escalade in town. No it does not have the same room the Escalade has. What it does do is ride smooth on the open highway and allows you to be in control so that if something happens on the road you can handle it with out a problem. The same applies to city driving. It's a sports car disguised as a SAV and will surprise you. When you need it to respond it jumps into action doing what you ask it to do.

Cadillacs are designed to give you a plush ride however they are not designed to perform the same way a performance vehicle does. So your talking 2 different animals. My suggestion is to drive them both several times but don't mess around. Get in that Escalade and scare the salesman out of his shorts. Watch his reaction when you decide try to zig and zag, jam on the brakes, and jump on that accelerator. Watch his face.

Now go find your local BMW dealership and get an 8 cylinder X5. (Escalade is an 8 cylinder correct). Now don't be afraid, run the same routine. Get in that BMW and try to scare the salesman out of his shorts. Watch his reaction when you decide try to zig and zag, jam on the brakes, and jump on that accelerator. Watch his face. Now after at least 4 or 5 of those trips you get to make the decision. BTW that's exactly what i did with both the X5 and the Escalade.

I enjoyed many things about the Escalade but the way other people drive now days lead me to believe that i needed something to be able to get out of their way right a way. Believe me i don't need to be floatin when it's time for action. My decision? X5 4.4. What a beast. Here's a comment you might enjoy. phibbard, thanks for the response. That is the kind of info I was looking for. This is a desecion I am trying to weigh. I do a lot of travelling and want a comfortable ride. However, I also want some spirited performance. For long trips say 5 hours, which one would you prefer? I do have a young daughter (15 months) so if we go away we have lots of stuff tagging along. Which ever I choose will have to grow with us for a couple of years.

first of all you cant compare a 3.0 X5 to an escalade. Its not fair. The Escalade is a V8. Although the the escalade has more hp it will never be able to keep up with a 4.8 at all. I was faced with the same decision you are know and decided on a 2004 X54.4 instead of a 2004 escalade. And 2 years later I am glad i choose the X5 over the escalade.

I agree with you on the 3.0 vs Escalade V8, not fair but I think the 3.0 would still handle's better than the Escalade.

Very well said. You can never switch lanes in Escalade as fast as you can in X5 to escape an accident.

I've had both, and they are different.

With a 15 month old kid (only), and light trailer, I would take the X5. My wife, though, complained constantly about the sport package seats and handling (the things I enjoyed the most). The X5 was quite comfortable on a road trip - no worries at all.

On the other hand, if you are going to pack several kids, plus gear, in for a Griswald family adventure, the Escalade wins hands down.

I first bought an Escalade as a company car. After about a month of commuting in it, I gave it to my wife and bought an X5. It was just too big to commute in.

For daily commutes, roadtrips by myself, or pulling my boat with a couple of my friends (I was gonna say who didn't argue like kids, but they did. I could hit my friends when they got whiney, though), the X5 was the best thing going.

So, it depends on what you are going to do the most in it.

We actually traded in the Escalade for an Escalade ESV - that is the ultimate Griswald adventure-mobile. With 3 kids, it's perfect. Or, I take my daughter, 6 of her teammates, and all of their gear to softball tournaments, the ESV can't be beat.

Me by my lonesome, listening to loud music on my commute - X5.

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. After driving the X5 3.0 and the 4.8 I decided on the 4.8 fully loaded with all packages. The 4.8i was in my opinion the clear winner over the 3.0. I felt that the 3.0 was underpowered for my taste. It drove compentently and was enjoyable, but when I took the 4.8i it was exhilarating. As for the Escalade it is a nice vehicle and a hard decision to make. However, the handling dynamics of the X5 won me over hands down, not so say the build quality much better. Placed my order today.

Felt the same way...thought 3.0 wasn't for me due to not enough power..4.8 all the way
