Drove new E70 at PCD

Took delivery of my e92 yesterday and was bummed that the factory tours haven't started back up yet. I did notice throughout the day that they had about 20 new e70s around b/c of the special launch events over the past few weeks. However, after lunch and a few spirited laps (and a few doughnuts) around the track in an M5 , our instructor, Donnie Isley, asked if we'd like to take the new e70s around the off-road track. Wow!!!!

My wife was with me and all I can say is that she's absolutely sold on the new X5s (me too). It handles like a dream (not to mention it rained all day). We took it around the slalom at pretty good speeds and very little body roll. It felt so solid around the curves (had sport package and 19" wheels) and was just as nimble as the cars we drove around the same track earlier. The off-road track has you halfway submerged under water and up and around all kinds of obstacles. There were many times where we were on just 2 tires and almost parallel to the ground!!! Donnie showed us all the features: Hill Decent, DTC, new X Drive, etc which I never (and probably most of you) had used before. The RFTs felt just the same as regular tires, but the suspension felt a little tighter. The interior is so much nicer than previous e53s (we had a TiAg, black, dark poplar interior; very nice). I thought the new shifter was really cool.

For those who have never been to the Performance Center, make sure you take delivery there or schedule yourself for driving school. That was the most fun I've had in a long time. It almost made me forget I was getting a new car!

Agree on the handling. In fact, I think no other suv in the market can beat E70 X5 on the slalom. Did you notice the engine is quieter. Did you drive the 3.0 or 4.8?

I drove the 4.8 and I must say that the engine is a lot more smoother and has a nice deep growl to it. Can't really say its much more quiet b/c my wife and I were yelling and screaming as we went thru the offroad track
