Night Vision

I noticed that the E70 X5 does not have the night vision system, does anyone have any insight. Might this be a delayed option, perhaps 2nd year production or a kit we might be able to add. We have a ton of road kill here in the South and this system would really help out. It would also be great out West, Elk are not the smartest and they can take out your car, if not kill you.

I want this option.

As an aside, I have been lurking here for few weeks and this is a great fourm.

TIA

Tim

As the NV is delayed and I am interested in what power plant options might be out in 18 months, I think I will wait and see what shakes out. The 4.8 would be nice, but I want to see if they might make some changes when the F01 7er comes out. Perhpas a new V8 might find its way into the X5, then I will get that.

bmw will probably make it a european only feature... as they probably figure we don't have night in the usa.

This could happen as they seem to do some funky stuff. E60 5ers have NV as an option. so why not X5?! You can't do Euro delivery and make a dealership install it for you while you are there. I did pay for an oil change while on Euro delivery and BMW mandated it on my E46 M3, a few bucks no problem. But no Euro delivery, so no go if they came up with some goofy or psdudo legal reason. It happens as you stated marcx5.

the question is, can it be installed afterwards by a dealer... or only factory installed??

If you have the money, it probably can be done; I don't think it's easy. I'm not sure about what the system needs to operate. There's a camera/infrared thing and the switches to operate it, and I guess the applicable software to function on iDrive.

If the OEM nav can be retro-fitted, I am sure night vision can be too.
