December 2006 X Series Sales Report

December sales of the BMW X3 and X5 Series are on the rise again as a function of the introduction of the new 2007 models. While December sales of the X5 was down 27.6% when compared to December, 2005 sales of the X3 was up 61.5% when compared to last December. Thus the total X Series sales figure of 6,410 units was up 7.7% over the total sales for last December. For all of 2006 sales of the X Series was still down 15.5% when compared to 2005. Let’s hope that 2007 will bring increased sales for the X Series.

By way of comparison Mercedes-Benz sold 8,790 trucks this month thanks to the addition of the R Class in September, 2005 and the GL Class this April and the total was 69,163 for this year. For all of 2006 sales of MB trucks are up 67.7% when compared 2005. Lexus also sold 16,322 trucks this month and a total of 139,397 for the entire year.

Please note that I report only United States sales data.

It's still about 78% of the Lexus sales. If you lined up 10 Lexus SUVs, 8 of them would be (beige ) RX. That's a lot!

Thanks for the info though! Nice to stay informed

No, it means that production was interupted with the changeover, and many potential buyers waited to see what the new model looked like. If the next two quarters show similar results, then your conclusion would be reasonable. For now, sales are building, likely synched with production capacity for the new model.
