Can anyone here explain why I saw a us Spec diesel here yesterday. The dealer tells me that the 3.0d is one year away. Thanks!! Whalerdude |

which restaurant?
Did you notice the license plate frame? I though they were going to use the new diesel, (X5 3.5d), but I guess they're not!

I saw an Audi Q7 with 3.0TDI badges a couple days ago, here in VA, though it had NY plates. As far as I know there's no US diesel Q7 until 2008.

My guess is we will have both 3.0d (one turbo) and 3.0d (twin turbo)
In europe, X3 have both engine, i don't see any reason why we shouldn't. However, the interesting thing is, some people said we might see the twin turbo gas engine like the one on the new 335i. If that's true, then we will get 4 different engine choice for 3.0L!! That's crazy. 3.0si, with 272hp gas 3.0 twin turbo with 300+hp gas 3.0d turbo with 231hp diesel 3.0d twin turbo 300+hp diesel |

Did ou notice if the exhaust pipes are hidden - pointing down, as tey were on the E53 3.0d?
The E60 diesel does not because the engine burns clean enough that there is no residue to condense on the real bumper.

Classic Murphy's Law...
..."if you order it, it will come."
Just ordered the 3.0L yesterday. If it turns out that they get the diesel out for MY2008, I would be choked. Hmmm, maybe I should find out what the trade in price would be already. lol. |

I was at The Grille on Laurel in Lake Forest IL.
It had one large oval exhaust tip on each side. The tour guide at the X5 factory tour pointed out the different exhaust tips were a way to spot diesels becase all of the X5s on the line do not get their badges until the last moment. It had a dealer plate-Illinois. I am going to call my dealer tomorrow to see if it is one of theirs and ask to DRIVE it. We picked up our E70 3.0Si in Dec. It is my Wife's car. I was their first E70 order. I told my salesperson that I want the 1st Diesel X5 that they get. I will replace my 2006 Subaru Outback (winter car so my 911 stays Cozy inside). |

no, the diesel engine has visible exhausts like E60 and straight, not turned down due to the particle filter. @whalerdude, the 3.0D exhausts are round, not oval, around 70-75mm. You need pics? Does not look awesome, unfortunately.Maybe it was 3.0d biturbo (called sD) which has still no launch date?? We expect Sept 07. Here in Europe is just oposite. 4.8 and 3.0si will be rare. We expect first 3.0D units march 15. Best regards Alex |

Here is funny end to the mystery You will not believe this one!
I went to my dealer today and the mystery car WAS there. There it was a black E70 with 3.0d badges on both sides. However, the window sticker said it said 4.8i. What the.... BMW made a 4.8 and some goofball but the wrong badges on it!! How the heck did that happen?? The had better check with their final inspection quality control person and find out what bar they were drinking at during lunch. I hope that my car has the right parts in place. I had better look at the motor again to see if they put a V8 in there by mistake. |
