Thanks for the feedback. I'll setup a testdrive for both vehicles.

I test drove both, and even though I was very impressed with the MDX, I chose the X5 3.0.

So much more elegant!!!

The MDX has the lead in technology, far superior Nav, voice commands work far better, superior rear camera, etc.

MDX does not offer Comfort Access, and does not have the same overly backup features that X5 offers. In the end, I thought the MDX was ugly...the dash has way too many buttons, and even though the technology was far easier to use and superior in most every aspect. The X5 was far more elegant and understated. I felt like a million bucks in the X5....didnt get that feeling in the MDX.

I love my X5...it is my first experience with BMW.

i am trading in my wife's 02 mdx for 07 x5 3.0..just took the acura for 6 hr trip (and back) NY to VA. we two up front, grands in row 2, kids in row 3. bags and stuff squished in wherever.
re row 3 it is important to note that in the X5 you can adjust row 2, which can get you back some space, not so in new or old mdx.

this older mdx did fine and is comfortable on these long trips. i had little fatigue, only one stop each way. its def softer ride than new x5. and the 5 year old nav system works like a charm.

we did look at new acura in showroom, and she didnt even want to take it out. the interior is way too busy and rear is dark and creepy with fat c pillar.
i did think the 07 mdx seats were more comfortable. we ordered comfort napa seats in X5, so that may help.
we both found the x5 interior much cleaner and body more attractive.
after short test ride i suspect in a month or two she will tell me ride is a little harsh, but it will be too late by then! bwaa-haa

Get the Sport option...the BMW ride is far superior.

acura doesn't even use real wood trim...

...they should consider putting less

i have been thinking about these two SUV's lately as well, not sure which one to get... the MDX is giving the N5 a run for its money... and making it very tempting, although i was set of an X5 originally.
