yeah pretty sure because i saw 2 lights on one side of the car, one higher (headlight) and one lower from a reflection. i also had this feature in my old clk

Interesting, I wasn't aware BMW did any adaptive lighting with the fog lamps. There was a huge writeup in Roundel about the dynamic lights, didn't mention the fogs.

if the e70 lights are like the e92, then its the inner headlight thats adaptive and moves, not the fogs.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if the foglights came on individually as cornering lights. Its a new feature BMW has been putting on the X3 and X5

Guys, they are the cornering lights. They are the foglights. Turn the wheel to the left, a reflector moves in the foglight housing, and then the left fog light gradually turns on. Same for right. The reflector makes the light go sideways, not straight ahead.
Fogs also turn on in reverse.
