What happens if? (to Canadian Residents!)

During a thought of an alternative, I was thinking if i can buy E70 in Alberta where the tax is cheaper.

However, I am currently living in BC where the tax is about 17% including the luxury tax.

Is it illegal to purchase such a high-priced good in different provinces?

If legal, how can i cover the insurance and drive back to BC? or ship it?

If it is a legal, that will be awesome to enjoy the taxbreak though lol

Thanks,

Kyle.

Legal but, you will pay GST (6%) when you buy in Alberta. You'll end up paying the BC provincial tax when you plate in BC. No way around it unless you have an Alberta address and remain there most of the year.

I dunno about Canada, but in the US I believe you're charged the tax based on where you register your vehicle. Otherwise we'd all flock to Oregon, Delaware, or any other tax-free states to buy our vehicles.

I think you can buy the vehicle anywhere. However, when you rigister it in the province of residency you will get dinged with the tax particular to that province by that licensing agency. T least in Ontario that's how it works. Buy a vehicle in Alberta-no GST- register it in Ontario and you have to pay the GST.

You can buy in one state and register it in another paying the state tax for the state where you register it.

If you register in one state and then register in another.... you pay state tax for both states. I know.. It sucks!!! You get taxed over and over for something that had been taxed once already.

That is really tough. At least in Canada you only pay tax once. There is no tax in the exporting province, the vehicle is simply given temporary plates (10 days or so) for transit. I know when I did a tourist delivery in Germany I had to pay German value added tax, but it was refunded a few weeks after I exported the car to Canada.
