Angry Update on first problem

Just received phone call from AD- they will be replacing the WHOLE steering wheel column in the brand new car/ 300 miles-4 day old/. Service department doing their best, but this is really sucks......
QUALITY is a major issue for BMW. We all loves driving bimmers including myself, but with quality so low japanese cras looking more and more attractive.
Thanks, I guess needed to vent

It's a shame this had to happen to an X5 with only 300 miles on the clock The good thing is that it will be done under warranty and you'll be back on the road. I would not compare BMW to any of the Japanese manufacturers. I'm a big Toyota fan and love their products, but no Japanese manufacturer makes a car or truck that handles like a BMW

Go ahead and vent... we are here to listen.

Keep in mind that all cars are built with parts that are mass produced. There are times when items make it thru the process and get installed but do not work properly.

I am not sure what the exact problem was with your steering wheel but... I am sure your dealer will replace everything with genuine parts and it will be just like new.

Add mine to the list of a new steering column replacement. Miles: 128

Also add:
1. Check engine light. Bad oxygen sensor had to be replaced. (On at 35 miles.)
2. Sirius radio installation gone awry. They cannot get the software on the vehicle to recognize the radio...despite having new "software shipped directly from BMW."

Total time in my hands: 3 days.
Total time in dealer's hands (post-sale): 5 days.

This is nothing short of unreal. It really makes me wonder how often I'm going to have to put up with these things. I expect FAR better than this from a 70K vehicle.
