What about the weight of the pano roof?

I ordered my 2004 M3 without the sunroof because I think it weighed around 90 lbs (which I still find hard to believe) and that weight is located at the worst possible point for a sports car.

I have a 4.8 X5 on order now. I know it's not a sports car but I'm guessing the pano roof weighs even more and I know it's at an even higher point.

I thought about deleting it but in the US I can't order the other items in the premium package separately. Thoughts???

Not sure what the actual extra weight is but I wouldn't be surprised if it was around the ballpark number you quoted...Then again, it is not ideal for the center of gravity but the X5 is such a heavy vehicle in the 1st place, the % of weight added is minimal. It is very different on a purist sports car for sure, hence the uproar for 997 GT3s in the US as they come standard with sunroof, left it off my C4S
Realistically tho, I just don't think it makes a very significant difference on a road car.

Don't delete it, all you'll do is kill resale value later. It is a SUV, it's not breaking 5 seconds to 60mph and not worth lightening IMO.

I wouldn't worry about it on a 5,000+ lb. SUV, you would never feel the difference.
I have the above mentioned GT3 and there has been allot of uproar from the purists re. the inability to delete the sunroof option however I highly doubt anyone other than a professional driver could tell the difference which certainly includes me and besides I like using it.

Even on the M3, unless you're a professional using the car on the track, I would highly doubt you'd feel a 90lb difference. Not that I'm an expert either, but I would be surprised if very many people would feel that.

With the adaptive suspension the X5 corners like a sports car - even with the pano roof. I have not performed a back to back comparison, but I think that I am going to need to modify my Z4 sport in order to match the cornering of my X5 sport with 20" wheels.

The X5 corners great, but I would think the Z4 would be much better. Not as much better as you'd expect when comparing to an SUV, but still better.

I am with BG624, as I said, completely irrelevant for a SUV. Even on a 997 GT3 great car BTW BG624, lucky man , nobody this side of Walter Rorhl trying to establish a new record on the Nurburgring would be able to tell the difference...
