My First Issue

I was driving yesterday when all of the sudden I got a "transmision faliure notice" on the screen. The ride went into limp mode and would not shift out of first. Luckly I was only about 3 miles away from my dealership so I was able to limp the car there. On the way ther I also got the AWD and DSC faliure.

It turns out the problem stemed from a broken crank shaft sensor.

has anyone else had this problem?

Yes - I had a similar failure - The DSC, AWD shut down. A faulty connector on a tranny sensor was my cause. Took them 2 days to figure out. All is fine now.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. This is a similar problem with e53 x5s too.

I did not get my normal service advisor as he was out of town. I left a message for the guy I was working with to do a software update, he told me that he was unable to do a spftware update. He said that BMW would not allow him to do a software update unless the repair called for it. Have any of you ever had an SA tell you thi???. With my normal guy (in my Dad's M5 he will update the software whenever he asks).

Tell your SA that he is full of sh1t! I am always able to get my software updated in my 530xi and X5 without question (and at no cost).

That is what I thought, the normal SA that I use I am sure would have done it for me.
Thanks for all the help!
