cpd1,
I never ended up going for the 535d. I opted for a Cayenne V6 instead and have to say it's the best "daily driver" I've ever owned. I've ordered a facelift Cayenne S with a sizeable number of options including a new 21" wheel design and a new two tone natural leather interior option. I was blown away by the peformance of the S on a test drive and with the new direct injection technology the V8 actually gets better fuel economy than my V6!
Had I gone for the X5 I'd have had the 3.0d with dynamic and media packs, pano roof, 20" wheels, head up display and a few other toys which took the price up to £53.5k. I was even offered a good discount by my friendly dealer due to the volume of business I've put his way in recent years. In the end I decided that for me, the Porsche offers better quality and great handling combined with impressive performance. I don't think any 4x4 offers good value these days in terms of residuals so I'll enjoy that V8 magic and forget about the £ss I'm losing whilst doing it
I'm confident that you won't be disappointed with the E70 though. It is streets ahead of the previous model in terms of both space and looks and the technological advances will ensure that it is a great drive.
Fastbuck,
BMW GB allocate all dealers exactly the same spec launch cars these days so they will all have a titanium 3.0d SE. I guess the rationale is to show it with minimum options but most BMW's end up getting at least 5-10% of the base list purchase price spent on extras so I don't think BMW have a great launch strategy. If I was responsible I'd load the cars with the latest wow factor extras and ensure that dealers within a 50 mile radius of each other were given different colours/specs so that potential customers could travel to see a car they might be interested in spec wise.
