I have read on a French board that dealers there are saying it is a simple switch and plug operation, they charge Eur 70 for it...

X5 Guy Why should I not have the Tailpipes of the 4.8. I could easily buy the 4.8. I prefer the Diesel for my driving. Anyway with all the extras I have taken it cost more than the 4.8 and half the CO2. Must I stick to standard wheels as well so I can really look like a 3.0d. Sorry I cannot agree with you. I am proud to be 3.0d

Although I am in complete agreement with you that Ayrton Senna was by far the greatest of all, I would have to respectfully disagree with the above comment. It seems to me X5 Guy is the one telling people what to do with their money and flaming them on the top of it....
BTW a 3.0d does 32MPG imperial (27 US) FYI and a nicely optioned one cost more in Europe ($110k) than the 4.8 here and more than he could ever dream of spending on a 4.8...So let's not use the money argument as it is childish.
And although the 4.8 is a great car, if you want something that really goes, a X5 is never going to be the top contender. To each its own, we all spend our money on the cars we choose, I am sure all the 4.8 owners here enjoy a tremendous car and I am sure it will be the same for the 3.0d owners when we eventually take delivery.
So if people want to change the look of their exhaust pipe on a $100k car, I really don't see what the issue is...Let's just enjoy a car that we all like and mod them the way we want...

I thought that part of the fun in owning an X5 was doing mods.

Will those work with the E70? Anybody know?

I think I remember somewhere that said the 4.8i tips are slightly wider, but a little work will make them fit on 3.0 ends. Here are the tips on my 3.0si.
