X5 3.5 for 2008

Sources (autospies) say that the 3.0si will be replaced in 2008 by the 3.5 model. This will have the same turbo engine as the 335i and 535i.

So, if I'm not mistaken, as of 2008 the only 3.0si left would be the X3?

if thats the case then the performance difference between the 3.5 and 4.8 would be much closer so maybe upgrade on the 4.8 too??

I'm sure I read somewhere that there would be a 4.0 twin turbo engine coming out too which will replace the current 4.8. They may keep the current 3.0 but offer it detuned like in the 325i. Carbon emissions are getting to be a major focus so they need to offer something relatively eco friendly as cars with high carbon emissions are starting to get taxed very heavily.

I think a detuned 3.0L on X5 don't make sense. X5 is a heavy SUV, a detuned 3.0L will make it almost unacceptable in performance. besides, a detuned 3L engine is not going to reduce carbon much. My guess is that bmw bump up the 3.0L so it won't feel as weak when they introduce diesel in the US.

If bmw really put a 4.0L turbo in the lineup, it will be very interesting. BMW will have almost all turbo engines lineup except the entry level model and M cars. (turbo 3.0, turbo 4.0, turbo diesel 3.0, twin-turbo 3.0)
