http://www.bmwusa.com/owners/bluetooth/phones

Other phones may work, but this is the "official" list.

I have tried a Nokia 6230i and Nokia 6233 (which was supplied with the car), both work fine but only the 6233 shows the phone reception on the i-drive screen. Other than that all bluetooth functions available on both. One advantage of getting a phone which has a BMW cradle is that the reception is boosted by the phone antenna in the roof fin. (which is a good thing in Australia as there a lot of areas with poor reception)

My BlackBerry 8700 from T-Mobile works great with it, It shows signal strength and reception on the I-Drive, downloads my entire contact list which approaches 1000 names with their multiple phone numbers.

I just step into the car and it seamlessly syncs and hands over without any action on my part.

I have found that the following handsets work for me flawlessly:

- Motorola KRZR on Sprint (also transfers address book real-time)
- Motorola Q on Sprint (also transfers address book real-time)
- HTC S710 on any GSM Carrier (also transfers address book real-time)

I have found that the following do not work at all (and I REALLY worked hard to try to get them to work):

- Nokia N73
- Nokia E61

For the Nokia handsets, I have the latest firmware version for both. The same is true for the KRZR, Q and S710.

There is a list of BMW compatible phones in BMW USA website: http://www.bmwusa.com/owners/bluetooth/phones, however, they are not complete and not up to date. I am using LG8300 and was told by BMW Customer Service that it was not compatible but it is working seamlessly with E70.
