Normal for newly released model from BMW... Saw the same thing when the 99 and 2000 model E53 rolled out the market and they had the fair share of issues...

With all the electronic stuff and software on the vehicle you can only catch so much with internal QA and rest of the fine tuning/QA reporting will unfortunately be passed on to the early buyers...

I'm not sure what you're talking about exactly....a lot of people come to X5 world because they are having problems....many of us have no problems at all.
1) nav: I think it's a pretty good system, especially with RTTI.
2)rear DVD: Can't comment, don't have it
3) It's not a "new lock out problem". It was a rare, single time incident, and it's very unfortunate, but it's nothing to get all worried about...it's an isolated incident..(from what I gather)
4) That's an opinion.
5) I find power to be fine for the 3.0si. It is adequate, and I am getting 17 mpg.
I'm not blindly defending the E70, I also had a problem-free E53 for several years, and they just are different vehicles.

Really!
bmw US spec X5 3.0 - 260hp & non-US spec X5 3.0 - 272hp(or 265hp)
compared to other auto manufacturers 3.0-liter engines, x5 3.0si has actually more power

Yes, the X5 is an utter failure...I would steer clear.

If power is THAT important, there is a solution: buy a X5 4.8i. How fast do you really need to go? Or is it just you won't have bragging rights of "I have 475hp"

All first year models have unsolved bugs and gremlins. It was the same way back in 2000 with the E53 4.4i. If you're afraid, then go buy a 2008 model later on.

I think most of the issues are pretty minor with a few people having serious problems.
We've had no problems and couldn't be happier. My wife who's the primary driver tell me all the time it's the best car she's ever had. Are there some things that could be improved, for sure but overall it's a nice vehicle.

I've had two problems, both minor, since January - a leaking windshield wiper canister and the steering wheel won't lift out of the way when the ignition is turned off. Both minor problems, both have parts on order to correct. I;m enjoying the hell out of the E70.

Let's see first model year and the rest of your questions were subjective.

NAV systems in all BMW's blow compared to their Japanese counterparts, that is not news...and the E70 is no different, neither will the 5 series.

Drive it and see if you like it, don't rely on others to make that call for ya.

Best car she's ever had??? Looking at your garage in your signature, that's saying something! My wife is looking at the E70 to solve her "My 2005 4.4i E53 is underpowered (read: transmission tries to use too tall of a gear)" complaints. Let's hope the 4.8i keeps the E70 in the appropriate gear so when you want to punch it a little it doesn't have to downshift two gears to get any momentum.
