I read that with option 6FL USB one shoudln't use a hard drive. If there is enought power on the USB port it probably can power a hard drive but it is supposedly not designed to.
It will def charge the iPod tho.
I selected the storage caompartment pack just in case I ever nee a power socket there

Jamesboags,

Details in the attached PDF of option 493, it is probably standard in some markets but not here in the UK. Silly money for having a 12V socket, a light and few straps in the boot...

the new R56 Mini has that same kinda material must be something BMW are going to introduce for all models.

I've done some research and if you get Bluetooth then you don't get the 12v socket.. for those buyers in Australia getting the Executive you may not have a socket for your ipod charger... unless you go the USB option where the ipod will power off this...You apparently don't get the 12v socket if you have any of these....although in Australia we get the Storage compartment package as standard ... meaning I think you will still get the 12v socket with this option...The list that does not get the 12v socket according to the parts catalogue is:

FOR VEHICLES WITH
STORAGE COMPARTMENT PACKAGE
OR
PREPARATION, MOBILE PHONE, BUSINESS
OR
PREPARATION F MOBILE PHONE W BLUETOOTH
OR
PREPARATION F TELEPH.INSTALLATION JAPAN
OR
PREP. MOBILE PHONE USA UNIVERSAL

This may be incorrect but this is according to the parts catalogue....

In the UK I have storage pack and bluetooth, and I have the 12V socket in the central section.
