E70 - Great Vehicle Poor Service (long)

I've had a slow leak of washer fluid since I've picked up the car in January. Finally took it in last month to the dealer in Annapolis, MD where I bought it. They diagnosed a cracked fluid reservoir and ordered parts. Took it in yesterday for repair and went to pick it up last night. Sitting in front of the showroom it was dripping fluid. Salesman came out and asked what happened? - it was that obvious. Apparently nobody checked to see if the problem was corrected - they simply changed the tank. I left it there and today it was delivered. The service tech called and said it had a hose that was installed backwards and she personally checked to see that it didn't leak. When the car arrived I opened the hood and found the long rubber engine compartment gasket above the tank was missing, the gasket around the back of the compartment was half off and laying on the valve cover and the washer tank was dry - no wonder it didn't leak. I filled it with water and watched it run steadily out over the passenger side mudflap. I called them back and they sent someone to pick it up. So it'll be there today, the rest of the weekend and at least all day Monday. Sigh - so dissapointed with the quality of BMW service. Sorry for the rant but had to share.

That is a long time for such a simple problem. I see 9 dealers in MD. If any other are within a reasonable distance you might consider a switch. I know BMW seems to monitor these sites. Sounds like the dealers service manager is worthless. This is a loose conntection or broken hose and proabbly between the tank and pump. Not a hard thing to figure out.

I had the same problem when I brought my E70 for the Backup Camera issue. The software waas upgraded and the SA told over the phone that the issue was fixed. Wehn I wentto the dealership to pick the car. Guess what... the Camera was set to display off due to the software upgrade. Called the tech and he confirmed this. How in the hell did they checked and confirmed to me over the phone that the Camera issue was resolved. Once I got home, The faulty Camera acted up again. Called the Service Manager and was aksed to bring it any day. Few days later called him up and he asked me to bringthe car over. He said to look for someone to get the issue resolved immediately. Well, the Service Manager and the person left for the day at 4:00 p.m. The Master tech tested it out and couldnt replicate the issue, did a diagnostic and said there was a loose cable. It is broken again when I got home. No call from the Service Manager. JMK BMW is the ddealership.

Last week I brought my X5 into service for 3 things: iDrive software upgrade, problem with steering wheel not going down without pressing the seat memory button, and a problem with the car always giving an "engine oil below minimum level" message on hot days.

I get the car back a *week* later (supposedly the software upgrade crashed and they needed a week to work it out) and the service documentation says no problem found with the steering wheel and the software upgrade fixed the engine oil level message.

Guess what? I'm driving out of the parking lot of the dealership and sure enough the "engine oil below minimum" message pops up and the steering wheel gets stuck in the up position.

But in all honesty, after having owned 7 BMWs I consider this kind of "service" the norm now rather than an exception. Sad .. but true.

There are other dealers in the area. Unfortunately, to drop the car off early means jumping into the middle of Baltimore-Washington traffic, some of the worst in the country. I have no doubt if there were other dealers close by this one would be out of business quick.

On another note, the loaner I received, a 325, was filthy inside with used tissues on the back seats, grass clippings in the trunk, and cigarette butts and ash on the console. I passed this to to BMWNA, but I don't think it will receive any action. Annapolis sells cars - it's one of the richest areas in the country. Service is definitely an afterthought - all you have to do is sit in their service wait area to see that. My wife goes to the local Honda dealer for service and there's a giant screen TV, free soda and bottled water and coffee and newspapers. NOT so in Annapolis. More like a Yugo dealer.

I just picked up my X5 from service 15 minutes ago (long story see my other theads)...the door handle was repaired.

I pulled in my driveway and closed the car and I hear a funny rattle in the door, I double ck and sure enough the door is not closed up properly and the lower panel sounds like its about to fall off whn you close the door. WTF!!!!!!!

So now I get to get up early and go back to the dealer 1st thing in the morning to beat the sat morning service rush...JOY!!!

I guess I shouldnt complain, I have only been to the shop 4 times in one week...could be worse.

UPDATE:
Just went out and the remote will not unlock my driver door now...GREAT! I will have to climb in over the center console again. I am going to shoot some photos of me climbing into the car and send them to BMW.

When BMW calls you to find out how your service went, just remember to give them a big fat ZERO on all the questions they ask you. The scale is from 0-5.

No, have not crossed that bridge yet...
went in for this issue:
http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e70-forum/...ld-repair.html

When I picked it up the first time, I discovered the door handle was broken, yeeha! So this is how I learned to climb thru the passenger side and over the console into the drivers seat every morning, o joy.

In the meantime I discover my HUD and rain sensor no longer work, the door wasnt enough for these idiots, they went for the trifecta.

So 2 days ago I bring it back to correct these issues...at first they tell me;
"just turn up the brightness on the HUD"
and
"It has to be raining for the rain sensor to kick in"

WOW, why didnt I think of that!

So I ask for the service manager and tell him that Im not an idiot and I know it has to be raining for the rain sensor to work, and I know how to turn up the brightness on my HUD...it is MY car afterall.

So back to the shop we go....fast forward to today- they fixed everything, it appears that when the replaced the windshield they failed to attach the wire to connect the rain sensor and the rain sensor has a light sensor which tells the HUD its day or night and adjusts the brightness accordingly.

I get home and now my door is rattling and somthing is blocking the door lock into the locked position, so I am back where I started climbing into the car thru the window...yeehaw!! aint this so much fun, I love sitting at the service department and reading the old magazines...maybe they received a new one.
