X5 E70 Tyres
Just took delivery of 3.0 diesel X5. Overall, very pleased.
I specified All Season Tyres for the standard 18" wheels rims. Bridgestone Dueler H/L 400 tyres came fitted. These don't look very "All Season" to me.... Anyone got any info...Were your X5s delivered with these tyres even if you didn'y specify "All Season"? (I can't find any info on any Bridgestone website about these tyres.) Regards to everyone. Thanks to both of you.
My only concern is winter use. I know that the only real answer is dedicated winter tyres for use on light snow, ice or when the tyre temperature is (typically) below 8degC. However these specialist winter tyres wear rather quickly when they heat up on a normal highway surface. As 99% of the year (including much of the European winter that I spend in the Alps) I'm NOT driving on light snow, or ice, or freezing roads, and the X-drive is very good, an All Season tyre is the practical answer to my need. So, are we sure that these Dueler H/L 400s are acceptable in winter HIGHWAY driving conditions. (I have no interest in deep snow, sand, gravel, stones, in fact any "off-road", and so on.....) Thanks(again) in advance for any replies

Winter tires (tyres for you)
Todays winter tires are made specifically for use in winter roads with/ without snow or mud. Manufacturers realize that most winter driving occurs on dry or cleared pavements in colder temperatures. Snow tires are always good on icy patches and feezing rain conditions, especially during high speed cornering (as in curves on highways) and for reducing stopping distance. Modern winter tires are a valuable option even with the x-drive all-wheel drive system because laws of physics still apply: static friction between the tires and the road surface is what keeps you on the road.

Winter tyres (tires to you)
Thanks for the very comprehensive info above. I have absorbed and agree with every word I've coped on newish all-season tyres on two E53 X5s to this point, but from this late-november, I'll be fitting dedicated winter tyres (tires to you).
