happened Again!

As I am driving along I get the transmition faliure warning and the car went into limp mode. This is the exact same thing that happend to me on the 12th of April and it turned out to be a cranck shaft sensor. Has this happened to anyone else. I think it is a bit odd that this has happend to me twice in 3 months.
I am not sure if it is the same issue as I just droped the car off and they will not even look at it until Thursday. I will update as I get more information.

Just got word from my service advisor, they did a PUMA case on the car, I am not sure what that is. I was told that the techs have been in contact with BMW engineers in New Jersy and have put the car through 2 days of tests. They have narrowed it down to a wire harness or computer. They are going to replace both. Both parts are back ordered so I will be in a loaner for another 7-10 days.

I owned a 02 C32 AMG and it had very very similar problems. It was narrowed down to too short of a wiring harness that became disconnected, bad connection when the motor rocked during hard acceleration. I had that particular car lemoned out because this incident happened to me about 6 times. The 03 they gave me did it to me too, at 500 miles!!!

Do you know the details of the "They have narrowed it down to a wire harness or computer"? was the harness too short?

Chris

not sure if the harness was too short, I suppose not due to the fact that they can't decide if it is the computer or harness. I will ask when I get the car back in a week or two.

480M...Being that this is a reoccuring problem, have you has any assistance from you dealer? I know you mentioned in another thread that you paid cash, but it seems like if they are keeping your car 2 weeks at a time and this same problem has happened twice, you should be entitled to a new car.

168. I have agreed to give them two weeks to fix it, while driving a x3 loaner. If it is not done in time have asked for a comparable x5 loaner or a new car. They know I am upset with the situation and the GM of the dealership is aware of my situation. Luckly I have had a lot of contact with the GM ( working with him and my father in track events) so he know me and my famlies BMW purchase history.
We shall see what happens in about 9 days!

Limp Mode is an understatement! It happened to me once, luckily only 2 miles from home and I was able to get it back home s-l-o-w-l-y. I called the service department the next day, they got me in that day and I drove there without incident. They found a faulty Crank Angle Sensor Code in memory and ordered a replacement. I drove home and returned next week when the part was in without any trouble. The installation and computer checks were complete in 15 minutes. Only one bolt holding sensor. It is visible next to the transmission skid plate and easy to get to.

Number 5. The first time this happened to me on April 12, it was the crank angle sensor as well. I thought this was the case this time however it was not. I hope that my two problems are unrelated, and I hope that you do not run into any problens in the future.

Finally got the X bacl this afternoon. When they drove it up in the service center I almost did not recognize it! I forgot how much i love that car, I had to take an extra 10 minute drive to get back to the office. All the work is done and I am driving it to La Jolla on Saturday so I hope all the glitches are fixed.
