Sapphire Black
I'm curious, does sapphire black finish show every scratch and chip as badly as regular black paint? Iv'e owned other black cars and swore I'd never do it again, but the X5 sure looks good in this color.
Could use some advise here, thanks

Sapphire Black does a better job at hiding swirl marks than the standard flat Jet Black. But just as with any dark color paints, you will get swirl marks no matter what...unless you wax your car every other wash.

The metallic flecks in the paint actually do a pretty nice job hiding the knicks and scratches. In fact, the 6yo rode her bike into the side of our Black Sapphire E70 and left a 6in long linear surface scratch but you can't see it at all unless you are looking for it. I really think it has everything to do with the paint! Swirl marks are fairly visible but they will be in any darker colored car.
Of course I am biased but I truly believe that Black Sapphire is best color option out there! FWIW we have Tobacco Napa interior and bamboo trim. |

We've had two cars in Black sapphire and our new one is also the same colour. Looks better than plain and the metallic flakes let you get away with a little more.

If you plan on getting scratches and rock chips then you probably don't need any kind of black color. I have a Jet Black E53 that I bought in '01 new and I get compliments all the time how good it looks--you have to take care of it (hand wash, wax it, get the clear bra for the front end, etc). Jet Black is a "softer paint" than Sapphire so it's more prone to marks but there's no comparison when it's clean--Jet Black looks great.
