X5 vs MDX help me sway the wife.

finally got the wife out to look at some new cars. I of course want the x5 for her. we went and looked at them and all she said was I am not paying blah blah, it was a loaded 4.8.
so we went to the acura place and she likes the mdx, cheaper and hse said she likes the looks.
now granted the places are closed today so she oculd not drive them. She already has a bad taste for bmw becasue she hated my 2004 x5 4.8is 's ride, she hated it. I realize the new ones ride better, and that is what is going to sway her decision, does it ride better then the mdx? what do you guys think, or does anyone have any first hand info.
Anyone have anything that would convince a women to get an x5 over the mdx. I think I might be SOL, here.

JUST TEST DROVE THE MDX FOR A SECOND TIME HOURS AGO.

Its a tough choice, the MDX is very impressive...I think you are SOL. BTW the rides are very similar, so if she didnt like the X5, she wont like the MDX either. We also test drove a XC90 today and my wife prefered it over both (the ride that is- I just laughed at her)...though it is too small for her (third row is like my X5).

I am looking for a car for my wife and we test drove the MDX for the second time today. I already own an X5, so we arent going to get a second one. When I bought the X5 I also looked at the MDX and it was my second choice then.

Now that Ive had the X5 for 6 months, we are looking at the MDX again...its a very nice car. It handles as well as the X5, is larger, has a better AC, has far better technology- specifically the rear camera blows away the BMW camera, the Voice Command works perfectly every time, the rear DVD is a better design, the third row is much better, the third row has air bags, the MDX has two ac compressors and it shows (I think the X5 only has one...could be wrong), and it has more cargo space. The MDX also has power rear hatch (open and close).

Some things the MDX does not have:
1. Not nearly as elegant as the X5 (actually I think the MDX is ugly, especially the dash)
2. no comfort access
3. no parking assist overlay graphic on rear camera
4. no HUD
5. weaker Ipod integration
6. no panoramic sunroof
7. no runflats (is this a benefit??)
8. no free maintanence
9. third row has no AC vents (X5 does)...kids said they were hot back there.

but, the MDX is about $20k cheaper if you added all this to the X5...is it really worth 20k more? For me it was, and I am extremly pleased with my X5, if I had to do it again I would still choose the X5 over the MDX for myself. For my wife, the MDX is a no brainer. She drives two kids around all day and usually carpools so the third row is very important. If you dont need the third row then the MDX loses some advantages.

Most probably your wife did not like 4.8is because of its rough ride. 4.8is is a performance car and does not have a cushy ride if thats what she is looking for.

I have driven both the new X5 and MDX and prefer the handling of X5. The new MDX has changed a lot from previous one. Much better SUV than before. Its a tough choice. If your wife does not care about handling and performance than MDX is the car for her. Keep in mind MDX is cheaper and has no free maintenence. Oil changes on Acura are $40 but scheduled maintenence visits costs upto $500.
Also, Acura has one of the best navigation and voice command listings.

Are you sure about comfort access? Acura introduced comfort access with their 2005 RL when BMW had no comfort access in any of their cars.

Thanks that is the kinda answers I need. btw, she didnt like the ride in my 2004 4.8 model, she, nor I ahve driven the e70 yet. tomorrow we will.
to me the extra money is worht it jsut cause I like the bmw better.
I have a 335 sedan so this is going to be her/us vehicle.(three kids) and the older boy has to be in the thrid row cause he argevates the girls. we have a toyotw sienna now but I finally convinced my wife to get out of the minivan, so mdx or x5 will be good I guess, but x5 would be better to me.

yes, positive. That was one of many reasons I chose the X5.

btw- the new MDX has a pretty amazing ride, i too prefer the X5's ride...but I was SHOCKED how nice the MDX performed.

One more point, when you drive the X5 be sure it has the Sport Package...the Adaptive Drive is simply amazing.

there is a 4.8 with sport etc etc that we are goign to drive. you think it would make a diference which one we drive first?
she will more then likely judge based on comfort of the ride, as long as the e70 rides like the mdx on a comfort level, I think I can convince her towards it even with the extra cost above the mdx. I much much rahter buy another bmw, but I promised her I would let her pic.

the third row may be the deciding factor. MDX is larger and easier to access + it has an airbag.

MDX. X5 is too much more expensive for just a little things over MDX. I am talking about the new models here, not any other than that. Sorry to be honest.

I am in the same situation, but it is more fair to compare the MDX to the X5 3.0 because if the price range... that being said, you get more car for less $ w/ the MDX and Acura is a reliable car. I think the X5 look better tho... Its a tough choice....
