Actually i did read it and we figured out those settings in our 2006 5 series after reading the instructions in our manual the first week of ownership.

For the E70 Under the Air distribution, manual on page 103 it explains clearly that "you can route the airflow out into the vehicle interior with various programs and those programs are listed for both driver and passenger. I guess using the rotating button on my X5 led me to recognize that it was the same operation only done electronically via iDrive on our 5 series.

Maybe that why we never ran into the problem as described. We did notice that some minor adjustments were required to optimize climate control for driver and passenger. But again the E60 manual helped in this regard as well.

As far as the system doing crazy things, i'm not surprised by that and i hope that part get's fixed asap. Kepp us posted regarding the outcome.

"What's the problem?" here ya go:
When the rear AC is turned on, the front ac loses 50% of its airflow. Also the system acts as if its possessed. The airflow just changes randomly...turns warm, air stops flowing from side vents, flow surges, blower volume is at least 200% louder, etc.. I have to lower the auto setting 9 degrees to stay somewhat cool.

As long as I keep the rear air turned off the system works great. I can set the auto at 78 degrees and I stay cold...but as soon as I turn on the rear air the ac is a POS! and the cabin does not STAY cool.

mine is at the dealer now for this issue.

Well I have read page 103 a dozen times and nothing in there "clearly" describes how to make the adjustment I discussed in post #1...but it really has nothing to do with the issue I am having right now which is related to the rear a/c.

I'll let you know what the dealer says, but I dont have much hope they are going to solve this.

btw- I am not the only one with this issue.

Hey X5FX - did you ever get your A/C issue resolved? I have a 2007 4.8i and with the temperatures here in TX starting to heat up again, I came across this same issue today. On a drive between Dallas and Austin, when I had the rear A/C on, I had almost zero air flow in the front. Even on "Max" A/C. I had to continuously switch between front and rear so that I wouldn't sweat too bad and so that my 3-yr old in the back wasn't too uncomfortable. Given the cost of this car, this is unacceptable.

Oddly, after getting home and allowing the car to be off for about 30 min, I tried it again and the air flow was even throughout the car. So a reboot of the system and it's working at the moment. Is this a computer issue? Maybe the A/C program is buggy, resulting in the "possessed" behavior of the A/C system.

the only solution I found was to tell the kids if the touched the rear ac I would punish them...they can sweat, the pioneers survived.

not bad for a $70,000 vehicle huh.

The middle setting in your second photo can provide a balance of both temps.
What i also i figured out is that to adjust these settings is very easy.
In fact that window comes up via voice control. Like everything it's easy when you know how.

Now if i could just get my Nano to stop scrolling thru the songs.......

that setting has no impact on the rear ac. The problem is when the rear ac is turned on, the airflow drops 50%
