Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I just wanted all of you to know how well the X5 performed in a worst case scenario. We have great vehicles and it is a testament to the engineers at BMW and the many craftsman in Germany and in South Carolina.

One lucky dude.

You should have got a photo of the idrive screen with the error code being displayed, would have been an interesting one. "dead X5 code 666"

I thought the wreck I had in Jan '06 in my '01 X5 was bad. Good thing you are ok. A lady pulled out 5 ft in front of me w/o looking and I drove through the engine comparment of her Cavalier going 40 mph. She had to be taken out with the jaws of life then ambulance--I walked away with just a sore head from airbags. They fixed mine at $22K in damage. They are unbelievable machines.

Glad to hear you are okay, especially from such a high speed impact. The fact that you sustained only minor injuries and the pictures show how well the structure of the X5 was designed to withstand impacts like this. The A-pillar especially took a lot of stress, from the impact and then the rollover.

I am really sorry this happened to you, and at the same time I am amazed every time I see wreck pics like this. Walking away from a head-on like this is truly remarkable.

Hope you get well soon!

Wow! Glad you're okay. Definitely a plus driving a BMW

Make sure you get a follow up on your injuries. I got sideswipped by an 83 year old lady with Coke bottle glasses once and it took a month or so before the worst of my back pain happened.
